  • Welcome to the electronic application for AMA Section Governing Council positions. This form replaces the traditional paper application. Note that except where otherwise stated, information that you provide via this application will be made available online to members of your Section and other AMA Members exactly as you submitted it - AMA Staff cannot alter your application to correct spelling or other errors. 

     

    Before you begin, consider preparing / locating the following application pieces: 

    1. A statement of interest (no more than 250 words) 
    2. A professional, high resolution headshot (optional)
    3. Letters of endorsement / support (optional)
    4. Curriculum vitae (A requirement for AMA-WPS and AMA-YPS, but optional for all other Sections. No more than 3 pages in length.)
    5. For AMA-MSS applicants only: Signed Deans letter of endorsement (download from here before obtaining signature)

    The elected members will be expected to fully attend the following meetings / events:

    • Section Leadership Retreat – Chicago, IL, August/September 2024

    • Interim 2024 – Orlando, FL, All Governing Council members must attend November 7-8, 2024.  The Chair, Section Delegate, and Section Alt. Delegate must attend Nov 7-12, 2024.

    • Medical Student Advocacy Conference (MAC) March, 2025 – Washington, DC. 

    • Annual 2025 – Chicago, IL, All Governing Council members must attend June 5-6, 2025.  The Chair, Section Delegate, Section Alt. Delegate must attend June 5-11, 2025.

  • Review the time commitment requirements for GC positions. 

  • AMA-SPS application

  • There are two requirements to serve as the Delegate or Alternate Delegate for the AMA-SPS. In the space below, please explain how you meet both requirements. 

    • Requirement #1: He or she has demonstrated experience in organized medicine by having held a leadership position(s) at the local, state, specialty society or national level.  
    • Requirement #2: The candidate must also have attended at least two AMA-HOD meetings and had prior experience with HOD Reference Committees leading up to the meeting. 
  • There are two requirements to serve as the Officer At-large for the AMA-SPS. In the space below, please explain how you meet both requirements. 

    • Requirement #1: He or she has demonstrated experience in organized medicine by having held a leadership position(s) at the local, state, specialty society or national level.  
    • Requirement #2: The candidate must have attended an AMA meeting or had prior experience with the AMA’s House of Delegates.

Upon the AMA’s receipt of your nomination/application, an email with details on how to access the disclosure form will be sent.
