Note that except where otherwise stated, information that you provide via this application will be made available online to members of your Section and other AMA Members exactly as you submitted it - AMA Staff cannot alter your application to correct spelling or other errors. 

     

    Before you begin, consider preparing / locating the following application pieces:  

    1. A statement of interest (no more than 250 words)
    2. A professional, high resolution headshot (optional) 
    3. Letters of endorsement / support (optional)
    4. Curriculum vitae (No more than 3 pages in length)
    5. Signed Letter of Endorsement from State or Specialty Society and Dean (download from here before obtaining signature)

  • Time commitment

    The elected members will be expected to participate in the following:

     

    • Fully attend the A-26 (June 5-10, 2026) and I-26 (November 6-10, 2026) HOD meetings.
    • Attend as much of the A-26 (June 4-5, 2026) and I-26 (November 5-6, 2026) MSS Assembly meetings as feasible.
    • Actively participate in the MSS Resolution Review process, which includes providing feedback on MSS resolutions and mentoring newer members. (Major time commitments during February/March/April 2026 and August/September 2026; 5 to 10 hours per month)
    • Actively participate in the HOD Resolution Review process. (Major time commitments during May 2026 and October 2026; 15 to 20 hours per month)
    • Review responsibilities are assigned and fulfilled on a quick turnaround (within 1wk) due to the logistics of the policy process. We understand that students may not always be available. You will be expected to communicate promptly with the Section Delegates and other leadership regarding your availability as it changes.
    • Provide testimony per MSS Caucus discussion on the Virtual Reference Committee and during in-person Reference Committee, as well as to the HOD as necessary.
    • Advocate for MSS priorities with state societies, specialty societies, and other AMA Sections.

    For leadership positions elected by Section membership (e.g., Section Governing Council), your individually identifiable information will not be shared beyond Section leadership, which will use candidate demographic information in aggregate form to assess the diversity of the Section’s applicant pool.

    For leadership positions appointed by the Section Governing Council (e.g., temporarily filling a vacancy on a Governing Council), your individually identifiable information will be used for internal deliberations about candidates and will also be used in aggregate form to assess the diversity of the Section’s applicant pool.
